“When there is nothing left to lose, we find the true self—the self that is whole, the self that is enough, the self that no longer looks to others for definition, or completion, or anything but companionship on the journey.”
— Elizabeth Lesser
Welcome,
I’m Katie!
My passion for working with individuals began during my time working in high school and college settings as a Chaplain. In my years as a chaplain, it was the relationships—the honest, human connection—that I loved the most, and the desire to become a therapist was always at the back of my mind. As was the case for so many of us, Covid changed everything. I moved back home to Oregon from the California coast, and focused on completing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which I did in 2023. I feel so privileged to now look forward to my work every morning, and to bear witness to the courage and healing of my clients each day.
I enjoy working with clients navigating a variety of challenges but find that often, the clients who make their way to me have deep curiosity for their internal experience and are looking for a therapy experience that connects them to their bodies, souls, and depth inside of them. I
am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and welcome all identities in my practice. I come to this work with a deep sense of gratitude for those who trust me with their stories, and humility for all I have yet to learn about you.
Through my time as both a counselor and a client, I found a deep love for Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS). IFS, also sometimes called “parts work”, is an evidence-based, trauma-informed, and somatic approach to healing. This practice invites us to lay down “pathology” and medical labels, and simply tend to your story and needs with compassion.
If you are interested in learning more about my offerings or if you would like to schedule a consultation call to see I am the right fit for you, please reach out.
What is
Internal Family Systems?
My approach to therapy is primarily informed by in the Internal Family Systems model (IFS). IFS is a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the complexity of our inner worlds. Each of us has many internal "parts" or personalities within us. Our parts often disagree or conflict, and can carry beliefs, fears, and often wounds, that impact how we experience the world and ourselves. I work with clients to identify and build relationships with each part of their system, and together we tend to stories and beliefs of these parts. For more information on IFS Click Here.
Additionally, I am influenced by the Psychodynamic model which says that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by unconscious forces and childhood experiences. I frequently draw from Narrative and Acceptance and Commitment modalities as well. Our work will always be tailored to your strengths, interests, and desires and it is my goal to work collaboratively with you to determine the best approach for your goals and needs.
